Deltona man hit in the chest in drive-by shooting

47-year-old Deltona man was shot in the chest in what deputies believe was a drive-by shooting early Friday morning, a sheriff's spokesman said. Joseph K. Palmer was wounded in the shooting incident that sheriff's officials said was not random. Deputies were called to 1043 Cobblestone Ave. at 2:06 a.m. Minutes later, deputies arrived at the home and discovered several bullets had struck the front of the house. One of the bullets bore through a window and struck Palmer in the chest, Davidson said. Palmer was conscious and alert and was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Davidson said. Deputies are investigating to determine whether the shooting was linked to reports of gunfire heard in the vicinity of Raven Terrace. There were no reports of other injuries in the earlier shooting four blocks away. Investigators are trying to find out when Palmer got shot, Davidson said.
